CHAPTER 1

End of Summer

“I’m not ready to go back to school,” Sierra whined, pouring her Cornpops into a bowl. “Second grade is going to be really hard.”   Jacob put his Poptarts in the toaster and looked at his sister. “Don’t worry, second grade is easy.”

Sierra poured some milk into her cereal and frowned, “Sure, it was easy for you, you’re a brainiac. I bet you’ll whiz through fourth grade too.”

 “Oh, right,” Jacob said sheepishly.

The kids ate quickly, and then went in search of their mom. She was in the living room, typing away on her laptop.
